About this place
Standing along a street in Nandocho, Shinjuku, Godaime Uotatsu focuses on honest, satisfying fish fare. Highlighting the midday selection is the Mie Aji Ippon Shobu set meal, built around a whole horse mackerel. Diners can select two different preparations from the same fish—such as salt-grilling one fillet while frying or finely chopping the other—allowing varied textures of crisp batter and tender grilled meat on a single plate.
The midday menu also features limited-quantity sashimi sets, seafood donburi, silver cod marinated in Saikyo miso, and salt-grilled herring, providing plenty of daily variety. Solo diners can comfortably sit down for a thorough and unhurried set meal.
Come evening, the kitchen broadens into drinking snacks and small bistro-style plates. Classic Japanese appetizers like homemade horse mackerel namerou, raw oysters with ponzu, and grilled eel skewers share space with European-inspired touches like salt cod brandade and pork pâté. Drinks are just as wide-ranging, extending from sakes like Tateyama and Sawanoi Soten to pre-diluted maewari shochu and wine.
Whether stopping in for a robust lunch or relaxing over small plates and a drink after dark, the kitchen offers an option to suit the mood.
